Approx. 55 maps and prints depicting Jerusalem and the Temple – woodcuts and engravings (some of them hand-colored), from travelogues and other books, most of them from Europe, from the 17th-19th centuries (a few are earlier).
The collection includes:
* Two woodcuts from the Latin edition of Hartmann Schedel's book "The Nürnberg Chronicle" – illustrations of the Temple (leaves LXVI and LXVII).
* Map of Jerusalem by Christian van Adrichom (1533-1585), from the book Theatrum Terrae Sanctae et Biblicarum Historiarum.
* Geographiae Sacrae ex Veteri, et Novo Testamento desumptae, Tabula Secunda (Sacred Geography of the Old and New Testament, Second Table), map of Palestine divided according to the estates of the Tribes, by Nicolas Sanson (1600-1677).
* De Stadt Jerusalem als zy Hedendaeghs bevonden wordt (Jerusalem, as It Looks Today), engraving by Franciscus halma (1653-1722).
* Ierusalem aus den Schrifften Iosephi ganz neu vorgestellt (Jerusalem according to Josephus' Writings…) engraving by Chrisoph Weigel (1654-1725).
* 13 leaves from the book A Relation of a Journey begun An: Dom: 1610 by George Sandys, with engravings depicting the Temple, Jerusalem and its surroundings.
* Three prints from the book Jerusalem Explored by the archeologist Ermete Pierotti, with sketches of the Old City and the archeological layers of the ground.
* And more.
Several of the prints in the collection depict other places in Palestine or its surroundings.
Enclosed: a color lithograph showing the interior of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, by David Roberts. Signed in the plate and dated: March 30, 1839.
