the German edition of Cosmographia, by Sebastian Münster. [Basel, 1614]. German.
Panoramic view of Jerusalem from the east – woodcut by Iacob Clauser (signed in the margin "IC"), with German captions indicating prominent sites. On the lower part of the leaf appear two columns of text describing Jerusalem, with an additional woodcut set in the left column – depiction the yard of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre (in other German editions of Cosmographia, this illustration appears in one of the leaves adjacent to the view of Jerusalem).
German text on verso, describing Jerusalem and Jericho, pp. 1469-1472.
Approx. 50X40 cm. (view of Jerusalem: 37.5X15.5 cm.) matted and framed: approx. 40X50 cm. Good condition. Minor stains. Small tears (slightly affecting woodcut). Open tears to edges (not affecting text or woodcuts). Professionally restored.
