A Piyut in the Handwriting of Rabbi Yitzchak Rafael Ashkenazi in Honor of Rabbi Yaakov Maroni - 1858
A five-verse long Piyut, which was written "in the honor of the complete and all-encompassing scholar…Rabbi Yaakov Maroni, on the occasion of his return in peace and with a complete recovery to his nation and flock in the city of Cento". The writer: Rabbi Yitzchak Rafael Ashkenazi (Tedsky), an Italian rabbi, served as rabbi of Ancona, author of the responsa "Va'Yaan Yitzchak".
Probably written in 1858, when Rabbi Yaakov Maroni recovered from his illness.
In the background of the handwriting are a few sentences (partially faded handwriting) in mirror script: "when he sat on his chair to shepherd the holy flock…".
Rabbi David Yaakov Maroni (1810-1888) served as the rabbi of several Italian cities: Cento, Pesaro, Ancona, Firenze and more. He authored poems and a number of important works.
12.5x18.5cm.
Condition: Very Good. Ornate paper.
