A C. 1849 LARGE EGYPTOLOGY ENGRAVING, TEMPLE OF WADY SABOUA, NUBIA, DAVID ROBERTS (1796-1964), THE HOLY LAND ETC.
A large folio page from that most famous of Victorian Egyptological works 'The Holy Land, Syria, Idumea, Arabia, Egypt, and Nubia' by the Scottish artist David Roberts (1796-1864). This page depicts the Temple of Wady Saboua, first constructed by the Pharaoh Amenhotep III sometime around 1370 BC.
Roberts traveled throughout the regions mentioned, making hundreds of watercolor sketches which were sold to the publisher F. G. Moon and lithographed by Louis Haghe (1806-1885), described by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York as "the best and most prolific lithographer of the time". The works were published between 1842-1849 and are considered one of the greatest art-publishing sensations of the era.
United Kingdom, c. 1849.
